THE PIGMAN MURDERS
One of the ideas we thought would be very good for inspiration for our trailer was 'The Pigman Murders' because it is a very simple trailer with limited amount of props, we feel it would be very easy to replicate but the problem we faced was that the location would be difficult and awkward to do and as there are not many of us in our group we would have to find a lot of other cast members. |
UNFRIENDED
Another film that we considered to use ideas from was 'Unfriended' this trailer looked very easy to replicate and would involve using some different technology, it did involved a varied and large cast, We therefore decided not to do it as we thought that it may be too challenging in that retrospect but also not challenging enough in the way of the different shot types. |

SCREAM 3
We thought that the Scream 3 trailer would be a good one to use as it had a lot of different shots that did not look to hard to replicate,. also the amount of shots needed was very high as there was a lot of quick shots. |
DEATH DO US PART
We initially decided on taking ideas from this because it was very simple and used good props which we thought would be a lot of fun but after analysing the trailer properly we realised that it wasn't the premise that we wanted to attract our target audience. |
WHAT WE ARE DOING
THE STRANGERS
We have decided to take ideas from the 2008 film trailer of 'The Strangers', We decided on this because it was a lot simpler than any of the other initial ideas because of the really basic location and very easy to purchase props, one thing that was difficult with 'Death Do Us Part' was that one of the props was a wedding dress which would be difficult to get hold of. We also liked the fact that it involved a masked cast so we could play multiple roles and a lot of the shots were very easy to replicate.

PARANORMAL
We both agree that we would like to stay away from the paranormal genre . This is for several reasons, one of which is we did a paranormal themed horror OTS last year so want to do something different. a reason for me personally is that we believe the paranormal horror genre is very overcrowded so doing something original will be out of the question.
INITIAL FILM IDEAS:
THE VIRUS OF LIFE
Whilst reading an article about an upcoming book, we thought about how a horror film about how society is ruined and dying and it's our fault. the idea for the film is that a part of our brains has been shut off by the parts for thousands of years but with this new generation of teenagers it has come back alive and sees that we as humans are ruining our own culture by becoming dormant and accepting things just because others do. This part of the brain has come back and is very aggressive causing some of this new generation who have a particular set gene to begin killing people (mainly older generations) because they are a plague to the human race. The film follows a group of teenagers who don't have the gene but are wrongly accused of it by older generations and scared of the new one. This causes them to be caught in the middle of a global civil war and they can't trust anyone because the gene can take any time from the years of 14-28 to become active.
(UNDECIDED):
Whilst explaining the idea above to some one we came up with another idea. The idea is based around religious conflicts. The film is about all of the satanic cults joining together and they begin purging christians. They are trying to prove God is not real by him not reacting to this and saving them. They are led by a man who claims to have survived the seven stages of hell and calls himself Dante. The film follows a group of teenage christians who are being hunted by this cult and are running scared. A possible idea for the title of this film is seven circles of hell.
THE STRANGERS (INSPIRATION)
So after rewatching the Strangers, which is one of my personal favourite horror films, we have altered the sort of horror film we would like to do. the thing that has always scared me the most is home invasion. This is because there is little you can do about it and you have no idea when it could happen. The strangers does this in a very clever way. The three people in masks make good killers due to their creepy mask being the only way you can describe them or explain who they are. The opening to the film is one of the most effective parts of the whole film . It says ,after telling you that the film is inspired by true events, that "according to the FBI, there are an estimated 1.4 million violent crimes every year" however this may be incorrect due to the film coming out in 2008. This immediately sends shivers down the audience's spine. We want to make a horror film that i would find truly scary and for that, home invasion is the way to go.
PSYCHOPATHS
We just read a really interesting articles whilst doing some research on psychopaths (link at the bottom). We wanted to know how many people roughly are psychopaths. We were drawn to the article as its title was :
1 In 25 People Have No Conscience – What You Should Know About Psychopaths
This is a very interesting statistic as the number is a lot smaller than we expected it to be. The article features an interesting quote from a book called "Sociopath next door" by Martha Stout about how psychopaths have always been around:
"Psychiatric anthropologist Jane M. Murphy describe Inuit concept of kunlangeta, which refers to a person whose “mind knows what to do but does not do it.” Murphy writes that in Northwest Alaska, kunlangeta [psychopath] “might be applied to a man who, for example, repeatedly lies and cheats and steals things and does not go hunting, and, when other men are out of the village, takes sexual advantage of many women.” Inuits tacitly assume that kunlangeta is irremediable. And so, according to Murphy, traditional Inuit approach to such a man was to insist that he go hunting, and, in the absence of witnesses, push him off the edge of ice."
It also says that the title stat is largely agreed but people such as Pamela Wayne, M.A., believes that 30% of men are psychopaths and that most psychopaths are actually more intelligent than an average human being. The article also suggest that this illness can be passed down, vie gene, through multiple generations.

CREEPY PASTA
Creepy Pasta is a website where people can share fictional horror stories. we began reading a few. The most effective ones were the smallest ones that often had a strong line at the end making the overall impact of the story a lot more powerful.
There are 2 stories in particular which we liked. We cannot remember the names of them due to reading so many of them. One was about this girl who kept hearing knocking noises when she was on her own since she was little and in her later life it got louder. The outcome of the story was disappointing but the concept of something following you for a long time is quite interesting to us as the victim tries to find out what they want and why them. The other one was only 4 or 5 small paragraphs about life and death and what we experience when we die. The story was very confused until the narrator said "Oh I should probably tell you that thing now". This leaves the reader confused as they question what thing is she on about. The last line of the story then says "you should probably read the first word of every paragraph now". This sets off something in the audience's brain as they suddenly worry about what it says,. You immediately do what the narrator said to do and realise that this spells out "Don't look behind you". This story was very well put together in order to maximise the impact of that last line and when you read the first word of every paragraph.
After searching for a long time we finally found the second story we talked about above. It is called the Message.
